Moving, even a local move across town, is known to be one of the most stressful situations a family can experience. However, when you're moving to a new city with a new job, it can be even more stressful. That's why First Data offers relocation services and assistance to help make your move a smooth one.
First Data offers relocation services in certain situations. There are three different types of relocation packages; director and above, exempt manager and below, non-exempt.
Before you start any part of the relocation process, make sure to contact your First Data Human Resource partner or Global Mobility.
Note: These FAQs are just overviews and are not specific to any one person's situation. Before you determine whether a relocation with First Data is right for you, please speak to your First Data Human Resource partner and read through the entire relocation policy found on FirstWeb.
Only exempt full-time hired or transferred employees at the request of the company First Data are eligible for relocation services. Additionally, you must be moving to a new work location within the United States, meet current IRS relocation guidelines for moving expense deductions, making an individual move and the company initiated your move. If you obtain your new position through a job posting, it may exclude or limit your relocation assistance.
Family members are entitled to relocation benefits if they live with the employee at the time of acceptance of the transfer.
There are three tiers of relocation benefits:
• One for non-exempt owner-associates (click here for an overview)
• One for owner-associates, exempt manager level and below (click here for an overview)
• One for owner-associates, director level and above (click here for an overview)
First Data may offer a one-time sum payment in lieu of domestic relocation services. First Data reserves the right to determine the Lump Sum payment based on business circumstances. These Lump Sum payments are less any applicable taxes.
Each level offers different relocation benefits. To see the entire policy related to your specific benefits and allowances, please talk with your assigned HR Manager.
Perhaps. New hire relocation is granted at the discretion of the hiring manager and the Management Committee. Please speak with your recruiter about whether you're eligible for relocation benefits.
Yes, you are expected to remain with the Company for two years from the signed date of the official start date in the new location. The Repayment Agreement must be signed and returned to First Data Global Mobility Manager prior to the initiation of any relocation benefits. If you voluntarily terminate employment or are terminated for cause prior to the second anniversary of your relocation date (defined in repayment agreement), you will be required to pay all or a portion of the total relocation costs.

The policies for owner-associates provide home marketing assistance. American International Relocation Solutions (AIReS), the relocation management company provided by First Data will help you find accredited relocation real estate agents who are knowledgeable about your community to help you market and sell your home. Please do not contact a real estate agent before being contacted by AIReS. If you have a preferred agent, you must give AIReS his or her name. AIReS will then contact the agent and review his or her qualifications. Once these agents have presented their Broker Market Analysis, you will be able to select the broker of your choice.
A home sale through First Data's Buyer Value Option (Director & above only) can be quite different than a typical home sale and using the broker affiliated with AIReS will ensure you're compliant with the home sale program so you can maximize your benefits.
When your house sells (if MC approved), First Data will pay for:
However, to receive these benefits, you must be offered the Director & above policy with MC approval:
The policies for exempt owner-associates include movement of household goods. AIReS will select a van line and coordinate the movement, including packing, loading, transportation, unloading and partial unpacking. Storage may be included.
Exempt Managers and below can also choose to use U-Haul and have these costs billed directly to AIReS.
The policies for exempt owner-associates include home finding assistance. AIReS will select a real estate agent in your new location to help you find a home that fits your family's needs.
If you have an agent you'd like to work with, you will need to give that person's name to AIReS before contacting the agent. AIReS will contact the agent for you and determine whether his or her credentials meet the policy's standards.
First Data also has a company-preferred lender. Your First Data Mobility Specialist will notify a company-preferred lender on your behalf, you are encouraged to be pre-qualified before making an offer on a home. However, you are not required to use the company-preferred lender.
Some expenses are billed directly to AIReS for exempt owner-associates. Please ensure to reference the policy specific to your relocation. These can include, but are not limited to:
However, based on the policy offered, you may be reimbursed for others such as:
Other expenses are not reimbursable. These can include things like rental deposits, house hunting trips, utility deposits and contract fees. To help pay for these expenses, First Data offers a Miscellaneous Allowance to owner-associates.
Exempt Managers and below receive a $5,000 Miscellaneous Allowance.
Directors and above receive a $15,000 Miscellaneous Allowance.
You do not need to submit receipts for expenses paid for with the Miscellaneous Allowance. The Miscellaneous Allowance is a tax-assisted (grossed-up) amount so you receive the full amount and is designed to reduce personal out-of-pocket expenses. If you do not spend the entire Miscellaneous Allowance, it is yours to keep.
