Aetna Aexcel Specialty Network

Important: If you enroll in an Aetna plan and you live in a location where the Aexcel specialty network is available, you will need to see one of these specialists to receive in-network benefits.

Do I live in an Aexcel network?

What is the Aetna Aexcel specialty network?

The Aetna Aexcel network gives you access to some of the highest-performing specialists who:

  • Have met industry-accepted practices for clinical performance
  • Have met Aetna’s efficiency standards

Aetna reviews inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic, lab and pharmacy claims. Then they compare the total costs of care from each doctor to the costs of other doctors in the same region. The doctors who best meet these qualifications are chosen to receive the Aexcel designation. The purpose is to provide you the best care at the best price.

The Aetna Aexcel network continues to expand each year so make sure you check back annually.

Click here to view a brochure on the Aetna Aexcel Specialty Network and to view the special areas of practice. For example: Obsetetrics and gynecology.

When will I pay more?

If you live in a Aexcel network and you receive specialty care from a non-Aexcel provider, you will be charged the out-of-network benefit coverage.

How do I find Aexcel providers?

To find Aexcel specialists, go to the Aetna DocFind® provider directory, which members can access through Aetna Navigator, and non-members can access through Aetna’s public Web site.

Aexcel specialists will have a blue star next to their names. When accessing Aetna DocFind, you will use the Aexcel Choice POS II plan and look for a blue star in the far right column.
